Big Piney High School Football
Final: Big Piney Punchers 0 - Cokeville Panthers 12
September 8, 2006
Coach Joel Eskelsen Comments:
Very much a defensive ballgame. Both teams played well on the
defensive sides.
The difference in the game was consistent play and penalties. Big Piney made
some mental errors on coverages, and the penalties at bad times helped Cokeville
sustain drives and, more importantly, control the ball.
Cokeville pretty much controlled the line of scrimmage with good
end play and linebacker blitzes.
Offensively, it was a disappointing performance. Although
we outgained Cokeville, little mistakes and missed assignments
hurt the Red all day. The passing started
to come around although we had a number of dropped passes. For the day
Brett Moffat was 7 of 21 for 97 yds. Gary Phillips completed 1
of 2 for 9 yds.
Seth Linn caught 4 for 75 yds and Mike Forrester hauled
in two for 20 yds. Linn
was the leading rusher with 63 yds on 15 carries.
The defense was still a bright spot but some missed tackles and
assignments hurt our chances with a number of defensive penalties
also damaging. Seth
Linn and
Trevor Wilson again led the stats with both over 15 tackles each. Wilson
also had the only turn-over with a late interception.
Next up for the Punchers is a homecoming visit to Pinedale for
the 1:30 game this Friday. The Punchers look to rebound off this
last performance
as they
enter conference play.
