Final: Big Piney Punchers 12 - Rawlins 6

Coach Joel Eskelsen Comments:
Third straight week of wet field conditions. Add wind and cold
to this one.
It was a great defensive ball game for both teams. Big Piney forced 4 turnovers
that completely shut down any hope of Rawlins mounting any scoring drives.
Both teams were impressive on their first drives. The Punchers
had a very impressive 9 play 65 yd drive to score first. Linn ran
the ball over from the one after
some good runs by Greenwood and Moffat.
Rawlins came back on their first possession and scored on their
2nd play. The 77 yd run ended up as almost exactly the same amount
that the Outlaws would
amass for the day. The Punchers limited the Outlaws to another 77 yds but
in a total
of 40 more plays – less than 2 yds per play. Good job, defense and
coaches who had the Punchers ready to play. Seth Linn led the Punchers with
23
defensive tackles including two interceptions. Trevor Wilson added
17 tackles with a fumble
recovery. Chris Manning and Zak Redden also had great games at defensive
end positions. Brett Moffat intercepted a pass as time was running
out in the game.
Offensively, the Punchers continue to struggle with inconsistency.
Brett Moffat led the limited rushing with just over 70 yds. Greenwood
added 34.
Via the
air, Nick Mackie and Greenwood each had 2 catches. Jay Van Wagoner was
important as his punts kept Rawlins with long situations especially in
the 2nd half.
The Punchers stand at 3-1 for the year and may have all but gained
a spot in the play-offs. In addition, the Punchers will be home 3
of the
last
4 games,
starting with a tough Lyman (2-2) team this coming Friday. Game time
is 4:00.
Four Southwest teams are looking to be among the top 5 in the
state. It could be an interesting last half of the season and the
Punchers
need to
gather
momentum and consistency to continue to garner wins.
